Dutch Trays or palletized greenhouse rolling benches increase production efficiency by combining plant handling and plant moving into one convenient benching system.

Rolling greenhouse benches allow growing operations to move plants quickly and easily to different locations in the greenhouse for tasks related to planting, growing, and shipping using very little labor.

Workers save time and are more efficient because the mobility of rolling benches makes it much easier to carry out routine plant care tasks. This goes a long way toward decreasing the labor costs associated with plant production.

Since Dutch Trays allow workers to handle plants as a group versus individually, workers handle the plants less and spend less time walking back and forth across the greenhouse to access them.

Growers also gain more control over the layout of a rolling benches greenhouse to organize by crop type, growing zones, or other growing requirements for convenience, and they can change this layout up as needed.

How Palletized Greenhouse Rolling Bench Systems Work

Palletized rolling benches consist of a series of pallets or benches that sit atop a set of guide bars spread throughout the greenhouse bay. The benches can move from side to side with the help of rollers affixed to the top of the guide bar system.

Transfer lines at each end of the greenhouse allow the rolling benches to move from bay to bay. A pneumatic lift raises and lowers a special set of rollers to facilitate the perpendicular movement of the greenhouse benches on the transfer line tracks.

Growers can also lift the benches completely off the tracks for cleaning/sterilizing or other tasks.

Using Rolling Benches for Growing

Workers can operate greenhouse rolling benches manually or with the help of mechanization. Either way, you need very little labor to operate them, which gives them a distinctive edge over other benching systems.

Dutch Tray systems also adapt well to automation for even more labor savings.

Additionally, you gain more growing space when using rolling benches for growing because they eliminate static aisle space. Instead of fixed aisles taking up valuable production space, you can push rolling benches together to create a floating aisle wherever you need it.

While handy, pushing the benches together does create a bit of a problem, though, because workers can only access the plants from one side of the bench. If you need to access your plants often, a greenhouse rolling bench system may not be the best fit for you.

Another consideration is the space that the transfer lines take up in these systems. If you run a small acreage greenhouse without many bays, you may save some space and money by foregoing the transfer lines.

Enhance greenhouse growing with a rolling benches system, optimizing space and efficiency for large growing operations

Designing for Palletized/Dutch Tray Greenhouse Rolling Benches

The mobile nature of greenhouse rolling bench systems necessitates a different approach to their installation and care must be taken when setting them up and figuring out their configuration.

There are also many options to choose from for bench types and the materials used to manufacture them.

Prospiant’s greenhouse designers and engineers work with you to find out what you want to accomplish with your greenhouse space and recommend the best benching systems for your growing situation and space requirements to help you find a cost-effective solution.

Advantages of Palletized Greenhouse Rolling Benches
